RARE HEART \"Magazine\" Original LP 1977 (MUSHROOM MRS-5008) Withdrawn PROMO:
$3499.99

Ultra rare and white hot stamper of this promotional copy of Heart Magazine\'s withdrawn contract dispute version from 1977. Only 50,000 copies of this version of Magazine were pressed, however most of those were recalled and destroyed under court order. A contract dispute between Heart and Mushroom records led Heart to switch labels and move to Portrait (a CBS label). Heart\'s second album was to be Magazine. If you have an early pressing of Dreamboat Annie - check the dead wax. On one side it has the inscription \"Go for it (Magazine)\" implying that Magazine was to be the 2nd album. Heart felt they deserved a higher royalty percentage but Mushroom records disagreed. They went on to release Little Queen on Portrait but after settling the dispute, they came back to Mushroom and finished Magazine. Ann and Nancy Wilson rock this album! Here is a Promotional Copy which is ultra rare and very few copies exist. This one has hand written labels. This is one of the very first pressings off of the master discs and is going to have probably the best quality of any copy that is available. Hear Heart like you\'ve never heard the Magazine album before. Very few fans can have a contract dispute copy and probably only a handful can have a promotional hand written label copy. Here is how I came to own and cherish this record for the past 41 years. A beautiful young blonde female DJ (who will remain nameless and it\'s probably not the one you\'re thinking of) was working at the newly formed WIYY 98 Rock in Baltimore part time and also working at the local nightclub Hammerjack\'s. She went to visit a fellow DJ from KISW out in Seattle Washington in the Spring of 1977 and brought back a promotional copy of the new Heart album \"Magazine\", only to discover the disclaimer on the back about the contract dispute. For whatever reason, she played the record one time and made a copy of it to tape. Smart lady! She was a frequent diner at the famous Baltimore Steamed Crab eatery, Bud Paolino\'s on East Lombard Street where I worked back in the day. She would every now and then, bring me promotional albums or concert tickets (she got me tickets to see Journey open for the Rolling Stones - just before Journey came out with Escape - but that is another story). On this visit, she brought me this promo copy of Magazine, along with a copy of the tape she made. I in exchange, gave her and her gentleman friend 2 dozen of our finest steamed crabs - on the house and maybe a couple of pitchers of Natty Boh. That was one perk I had working at Bud\'s and earning 2.30 per hour back in 1977. I was allowed a comp allowance which was intended for handing out a free drink here and there, but on that night, I blew out my allowance which was only 20.00 for comps and probably caught a lecture. I vaguely remember that part but I\'m sure I paid dearly in one way or another. But I got the prize and it was worth it. I later went to work at another fine restaurant establishment and was one of the original employees there. I won\'t say their name, but my handle probably gives it away! Now this album is different than the commercially released Magazine that came out in 1978. This version has some live tracks that were recorded at The Aquarius Tavern in Seattle. In fact, when Heart went back to the studio after the court injunction, they re-recorded and remixed the entire album. So this is a completely different version of Magazine. Is it as good as the 1978 version? That\'s a matter of opinion, but the mixes are certainly different. Some of the solos are different and all new vocals were recorded. So here we are 41 years later and this is my most prized long play album from one of my favorite groups. A super early pressing, and very rare hand written label on this promotional copy of Heart\'s 1977 version of Magazine. I in 41 years have never seen this version for sale, not once. I have frequented record stores locally and whenever I travel for business. Never ever have I seen this and I have seen some rare albums before. But this one is the rarest rock album I have ever seen (or owned). I once took this album back in the 1980s to Record and Tape Traders in Towson, MD for their expert opinion. I was buying a house back then. The guy\'s eyes lit up when he saw what I held in my hands. He was honest and sincere and said, \"We\'ll buy it, but we\'ll never pay you what it\'s worth and we\'ll just turn around and resell it for a lot more. I\'d hold onto it if I were you.\" I appreciated his good advice and honesty. I ended up buying the house and keeping the record. A collector once offered me a substantial sum of money for this and I declined as at that time, I didn\'t need the money and thought I would just hold onto my treasure. Circumstances are different now. I am in my final semester for my MBA degree and I owe school $6,000.00 in tuition after just paying them $12,000.00 last Fall, $6,000.00 in the summer and $5,500.00 in the Spring. Having paid $23,500.00 in 2016 and still owing $6,000.00 to wrap up my degree, I am painfully broke. I have decided that I have enjoyed safeguarding this treasure for the past 41 years, but now it is time to let another collector enjoy it. I have my memories of this album, the photos, and of course the story behind how I came to own this treasure. And in case you are wondering - I\'m working on my MBA as it is something I always wanted to do and never had the time. I didn\'t need it this late in my career and it probably will do me no good - but it won\'t hurt either. Maybe it will help me land my encore career! I finally made the time and am just struggling with the last bit of money I owe. And odd thing - why do I have to pay another $150.00 to graduate? Haven\'t I already paid enough? Shouldn\'t graduation be the reward? Anyway ...Since this is an early pressing - probably as early as they come, is extremely rare, and is promotional with the hand written labels, it is going to be listed at a healthy price with a best offer available. If you only ever own one rare lp in your collection, this is one that would give you serious bragging rights. And you know the history of this musical treasure. Please consider grabbing a true collector\'s item from one of rock\'s best bands.Album will be double boxed and wrapped appropriately. Insurance is mandatory and will be included in the shipping price. Shipping will be via priority mail with signature confirmation. If you are interested, don\'t miss out. Make me a reasonable offer and I might accept it. Thank you for looking.Oh and my tape is long gone, but I converted it to .mp3 files maybe 10 years ago so I will send you the .mp3 files of the songs from this album.
