RARE LADIES 1800s Antique Victorian ORIGINAL BONNET HAT CIVIL WAR ERA BLACK SILK:
$39.99

This wonderful piece is all original. A Victorian/civil war era bonnet or hood from approx. 1837-1866.  It may have been a mourning hat but based on the thick quilted layers and overall worn appearance is more likely a head covering for day to day work.

It appears to have originally made of a silky black fabric, worn down to brown giving it a wonderful depth. The ties are a grosgrain ribbon.

The center may be horsehair or another type of batting. It is pleated and ruched. Please see the photos for an area needing restitching and to see all of the condition details. The wire is showing thorough in this area, as well.

I have not attempted any repair as I wanted to keep it as found.

This is from the same estate as some heavy lap robes. Possibly Amish or Mennonite in South central York and Lancaster Pennsylvania.

Thank you.
