Up for your consideration is a large rare antique/vintage Rueckheim Bros.& Eckstein Reliable Confections can, the company that created Cracker Jack before they changed their name. This can dates from about 1914 to 1922. A little history . . .

In 1871, a German immigrantnamed Frederick William Rueckheim started selling popcorn that was made by handwith steam machinery in Chicago.

According to legend, in1893, Rueckheim and his brother, Louis, introduced the unique popcorn, peanutsand molasses confection that was the forerunner to Cracker Jack at Chicago\'sfirst World\'s Fair.

Louis Rueckheim discoveredthe process for keeping the molasses-covered popcorn from sticking together andgave a sample of the result to a salesman who exclaimed \"That\'s acrackerjack!\" (meaning great!) Rueckheimagreed and the name \"Cracker Jack\" was born.

Henry Eckstein was the onewho developed the package that became the Cracker Jack package and that earnedhim a promotion - the company was reorganized as Rueckheim Bros. & Ecksteinin 1902.

In 1914, they opened a new plant in Brooklyn, NY for making CrackerJack and they changed the company name to Cracker Jack in 1922.

Since this marvelous can is from \"Rueckheim Bros. & Eckstein,Reliable Confections, Chicago and Brooklyn, U.S.A.,\" that dates it frombetween 1914, when they opened the Brooklyn plant, and 1922, when they changedthe company name to Cracker Jack.

This is a large can, measuring a little over 12\" in diameterand it stands 6\" tall.

It is in really wonderful condition with great character. The lid and the bottom & inside of thecan are oxidized and there are a fewdents and dings and a few small spots of rust and signs of wear, but nothingmajor.

I have seen a couple of these cans in yellow, but not in red and this is a nice one.

Even without the great historical Cracker Jack significance, thiswould be an awesome addition to any antique/vintage advertising collection!
