A Fine Armorial Crest of an Armored Hand Bracketed by Two Feathers is Engraved on the Back of the Bowl

Here is a top quality and rare George II Marrow Scoop with a Spoon Bowl made by the famous London silversmith, John WOODWARD.

This rare Marrow Scoop / Spoon was made in 1731 in fully hallmarked English Sterling Silver.

The Marrow Scoop is engraved with a fine armorial crest of an armored hand bracketed by two feathers.

This unusual marrow scoop has a traditional narrow scoop on one end and a full size table spoon bowl on the other.

The Marrow Scoop is overall in excellent condition, with only some minor wear consistent with its age and usage – see photographs.

The Marrow Scoop / Spoon is eight and a half inches long (8.5 ins / 21.5 cms) and weighs over two ounces (2.2 ounces / 62 grams) of hallmarked sterling silver.
This handsome Marrow Scoop is in lovely condition and has a fine soft patina.

The hallmarks shown above are the leopard’s head crowned the town mark for London, the letter “Q” the date letter for 1731, the lion passant guarantee mark for English sterling silver, and the maker’s mark “IW” for the silversmith, John Woodward. See Grimwade page 128 mark #1738 for this actual mark.
