STUNNING, SILK, HAND SEWN, AUTHENTIC JAPANESE VINTAGE KIMONO - 1920s /1930s (Late Taisho or Early Showa Period) - TRADITIONAL MODERNIST, RETRO, CUBIST, ABSTRACT DESIGN - WOVEN IN SPARKLING METALLIC AND COLOURED THREADS - HAND CRAFTED -EXCELLENT CONDITION.

This is an authentic, truly vintage, lined kimono which I am offering at an affordable price. This garment is a genuine kimono from Japan, made in the traditional form. The condition is excellent for an item of this age.

The fabric is a thick, semi-lustrous silk which has a smooth but slight woven texture. It is a fairly heavy fabric with slightly firm texture.

The base colour looks like black but in the brightest light there is a hint of green.

The pattern is woven and shows a style of pattern which is modernist and abstract. It shows small overlapping geometric shapes in sparkling threads of gold, silver, pale pink and terracotta red. There are also some long angular stripes of the deep red colour.

The lining is fine pale pink cotton in the body and sleeves with terracotta red, fine crepe silk in skirt and cuff. This lining suggests the period between the 2 world wars when silk was in short supply so around 1920s / 1930s.

Please Note: this item does not come with a belt - although any sash or ribbon can be used to tie it. Authentic Japanese kimonos do not have belts but instead are worn with an obi which would be bought separately.

AGE & CONDITION : I believe this kimono originally dates from the 1920s or possibly 1930s. The modernist patterning, size & lining style are all characteristic of this date.
The condition is vintage excellent. This means that the item does not have any conspicuous faults and is in excellent overall condition.
However there are some minor, typical condition issues to be considered. There are a couple of minor spots in the lining, The item is slightly musty. There are a few creases. This item has quite some age so please do not expect it to be like new.

SIZE : It is a typical size for a kimono of its era (which is shorter than contemporary kimono and therefore a more easily wearable and usablelength). Sleeve to sleeve width is 125cm/49”, overall length is 142cm/56”, the width across the back (side seam to side seam) is 61cm/24”. It weighs about 920g which is reflected in the postal costs.

WHY CAN SOME WOMEN\'S KIMONO BE SO LONG? Contemporary and formal kimono can be very long indeed. This is because they are traditionally shortened by hitching up at the waist and hiding the excess fabric behind the wide obi belt. (I can send instructions on how to do this if you want them). If you want to shorten a long kimono for ease of use then of course it can be hemmed up in the normal way.

All information is to the best of my knowledge. Please bear in mind, that colours do not always show absolutely accurately on photos and on monitors although they should be close to reality. My items are mostly vintage and are not returnable unless grossly mis-described, so please check the details and measurements before offerding/buying. Please be aware that vintage clothing does not usually \'look like new\' even when it is in excellent condition. Some slight general signs of ageing and use should be expected. If these are conspicuous they will be mentioned in the description.Low response– if you have less than 3 responses, please email me before offerding. If you do not, I may cancel your offer and block you from offerding until we have communicated. Sorry about this but it is based on previous experience of problems.Overseas buyers must pay with paypal.Payment and postage terms: The postal charge includes a small packaging and handling charge. now charge me a final value fee commission on the postal charge as well as the item value. So I have had to pass this new cost on via the postal cost.UK buyers can pay by paypal, cheque, electronic bank transfer (email for details) or postal order. It is not usually much cheaper to combine postage especially to overseas. Sometimes it is actually cheaper to send two or three small parcels than one large one. This is based on the post office pricing structure and is not in my control.Combined postage for UK buyers, depending on what you buy, I will look into the most secure and economical way to send combined parcels and advise you of options. But again as the weight and value of the parcel rises so does the postage cost. Please do not expect large savings on combined postage.

Please understand that selling items on and posting them out incurs costs to me, so please don\'t buy unless you have read the description carefully and are sure that you want the item.
