Fineantique 18th centuryfrench violin made circa 1780.

Fineantique18th centuryfrench violinmade circa 1780. The top is made of two parts of spruce and shows regular thin grain lines. The back is made oftwo parts of faintly flamed maple. The ribs and head are of the same wood. The head has been beautifully grafted on a more recent neck. The varnish is of an orange colour, in the spirit of the one employed by Louis Guersan (I must precise that the violin is not a Guersan).

The violin is in a good playable condition, with some old woodworm work on table which have been filled a long time ago, and a crack at the lower part of the back which has been glued but not patched. Thre is also a repair on lower ribs, and some edges replacements.

The violin has been set up witharosewoodand bone tailpiece,the matching endpin,a rosewoodchinrest, a new Despiau bridge and a Thomastik Dominant strings set. The pegs are rosewood late 19th century. The instrument has no label.

Lower bouts : 204 mm.
