RARE ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR ERA WOMAN\'S PALETOT COAT JACKET MILITARY STYLING:
$155.00

Welcome.
I came across a closetful of what I believe are civil war era clothing at an estate sale. This beautiful jacket is really something special. The styling is so interesting and flowing with lots of curved lines; , and the fabric, wool I believe is unlike anything I\'ve felt before... soft, smooth, a little felt like., very tight weave.
The buttons look kind of micro-crochete.
The collar is fabulous, peaked in the back and dog boned at the long ends on the shoulders which sweep and continue down the front placket as long one piece. Just as the collar is sewn to the body on one side but is open and can be lifted up; the rest of the placket is the same., kind of an open flap which looks nice with the open flaps of the folded sections on the body.
The front is angled with a cross over snap strap at the waist. the small peplum below the waist band dips and rises in the back with two rounded dips in the center flanked by two sharper triangluar dips and finally two elongated rounded end pieces in the front
The coat has two lines of folded fabric; angled in the front and straight in the back.
The sleeves are slightly puckered where they meet the body;,, the sleeve ends I think may have been incomplete.. This may have been in the process of being hand made but perhaps never finished?
The lining is disintegrating; it feels like a cross between paper and silk.
The front closes with loops that go over the buttons and the interior woven basting around the front edges of the coat.
This jacket fits like a 4-6, small. I am a 10 and can just fit it on. I think an 8 would still be tight and a 4 or 6 or even a 2 could wear this.
Measurements:34 bust (max) when buttoned.28 waist when buttoned14 shoulders23\" sleeve17\" length (from back collar to peak of peplum skirt)
This is a deep black; I lightened a few photos for sake of being able to see details.A lot of this jacket seems hand sewn to me. I\'m not an expert in the era clothing at all.. I\'ve jst been digging a little bit but would welcome any expert insight. I love to learn about these things I find!
Please ask if you would like any more photos. I\'m happy to help.
** skirt not included. I will be listing two skirts and two blouses , and a black silk mourning dress from the same sale.
