I am a mom, dentist and lover of antique copper cookware & kitchenalia! While shopping for pieces to add to my own collection, I have had the privilege of finding other beautiful pieces to share! Since I can\'t keep all of these treasures for myself, I have several gorgeous pieces for sale. Most of my items come directly from France and England. Take a peek at my other listings, if you like.

For sale is a RARE 7.5\" Copper & Silver Covered Casserole Stamped Paris Bi-Metal!
( Having just proofread this listing, I will apologize in advance for another too-long and rambling description...as well as any missed typos! Sorry everyone-sometimes I simply have a lot to say! )
I purchased this magnificent antique silver-lined casseroledirectly from France. Itis in excellent condition and is perfectly suitable for use! I love its unique handleless lid and pristine silver lining. Stunning!!

If you are a regularfollower of my listings, you have probably noticed that I have listed several silver-lined pieces over the past few weeks. I still have a few more pieces to go, so keep checking back! One day, I will probably kick myself for parting with all of these gorgeous silver-lined pieces. They are so hard to find! Get them while you can. I will surely come to my senses soon and stop sharing them :))
Stamps & Manufacturer\'s Marks:
As you can see in the pictures, both the pan and the lid have been stamped \"18 3708\" on one side of the handle and has the classicCrown &Shaking Hands with the words,\"PARIS BI-METAL CUIVRE ET ARGENT PUR BTE S.G.D.G\" on the other side.
~ CUIVRE ET ARGENT PUR BTE S.G.D.Gtranslates to Copper and Pure Silver. BTE stands forBreveté, which is the French word for patent.SGDG (sans garantie du gouvernement) means without guarantee of government. Basically, this stampindicates that the government of France has issued patent protection for a piece bearing this mark, but does not guaranteeits quality or performance. As I understand it, this patent system began in the late 1700\'s! ~
This piece is structurally sound and the craftsmanship is superb!
The pan is round with two silky-smooth bronze/brass handles and comes with its original lid! How amazing to find these two matching pieces, still together after morethan a century!
The handles of the pan are firmly attached by solid copper rivets.
There are no cracks, holes or leaks. There are a few minor dings to be noted, but nothing major to report.
The pan sits flat and iswell-balanced. The symmetry of both pan and lid is very good.
The lid is quite unique as it has no handle. I cannot say for sure why it was designed this way, but it fits very well and is in great condition! There are some tiny nicks and few \"wavy\" spots around the rim of the lid, as you can see in the zoom pictures that show the seal between pan and lid. Once properly positioned, a tight seal is formed with no gaps.
Exterior Condition:
The copper exterior has a brilliant mirror-like shine. There are a few lightscratches and minor blemishes to be noted-see picture #12, as well as some patina around the handles- again, nothing major to report. It is magnificent!
Interior Condition:
The interior surfaces are lined with silver and look spectacular!
The linings of both pan and lid are completely intact. There is no exposed copper.

In addition to the outstanding cooking performance that silver-lined cookware offers, it also has reported health benefits.Both silver and copper are anti-bacterial. However, unlined copper can react with certain foods,creating a bitter taste. A non-reactive lining is preferred and silver is perfect!During the 1800\'s physicians began recommending that the food for \"invalids\" be prepared in silver-lined pots & pans, due to its curative properties. Silver-lined cookware is used throughout Europe in Wellness Spas and Resorts. (Interesting... in the US, we just write more prescriptions...)
While the performance and health benefits of silver-lined copper cookware are clearly fantastic, there is yet another feature that seems to be very beneficial for certain individuals. Thinner and lighter silver-lined pieces provide the nearly same (or better) thermal conductivity as thick and heavy tin-lined copper. It has been myexperience that these more light-weight pieces work very well for those who cannot or simply do not want to lift heavy copper pots & pans. I have hadseveral requests for light-weight, silver-lined pieces from individuals who have had problems with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and arthritis, as well as from our fabulous community of Senior Chefs! Many have no plans to stop cooking, but can no longer hoist an 8 pound pot onto the stove. When my 86 year old mother visits, she completely shuns my incredible, but very heavy, Gaillard pans and goes straight for the silver-lined skillets!
With that being said, I do have several silver-lined pieces in my collection. However, I must admit that they make me slightly nervous. Due to the fact that everyone in my family loves to cook, I have to keep a close watch over my silver-lined cookware. While I don\'t mind (too much) if I see theoccasional metal spatula being raked across my tin linings, I\'m not sure how I might respond to the similar abuse of a silver-lined pan. As my youngerchildren become more responsible chefs and I remember to hide the Brillo pads from my mother, I will certainlyexpand my silver-lined collection.For now, my collection is on hold and this piece is up for grabs!Happy offerding!!
