A very rare Polish army compass used in the September Campaign, captured by a German and most likely taken as a souvenir from the piles of captured equiptment.
Made by the well known German firm Gerlach which was first owned Germany, then by Poland after WW1
Former German company for measuring and drawing instruments (Fabryka Instrumentów Geodezyjnych i Rysunkowych G. Gerlach) which had been existing in Warsaw (4, Ossoliñskich street) since 1816.
This company won in 1933 a tender for procurement of 4285 marching compasses for the Polish Armed Forces with a model called M.K. 32 (and later K.M. 32) after its inventor\'s initials, Colonel Miko³aj Kulwieæ, born March 24, 1890. It is also known in Poland as the „Kulwieæ compass“. This is No. 464 and measures 2 7/8\" w x 3\" h.............is fully functional and the lens is cracked as shown............
