From Peggy Nisbet Special Collectors Set 16A Trio of Beauty from Famous Portraits
Limited to 500 sets - Issued in 1979- Hand-made in BritainThis is LE/90 - Renoir - The BoxRenoir - The Box is the last of the set, and draws its inspiration from the well known impressionist portrait by this romantic French painter. Possibly he glimpsed the subject of his original painting in a private box near the stage, at the Moulin Rouge.Dressed in dramatic black and white broad striped satin gown, ruffled trim and wearing her jewels this is one of the highlights of the House of Nisbet, a very beautiful doll and a lovely example.Missing a little paint off of her shoes, but the arms still appear to be attached to the body, unusually for these dolls as the rubber band holding the arms in place has often disintegrated after all this time. Peggy Nisbet styrene collectors\' dolls are about 8\" tall.

Peggy Nisbet wasthe doyenne of British doll design from the 1950s until her death on 9thOctober 1995, aged 86. She meticulously researched every doll – each costumeand character was designed with great accuracy; there was wide variety – fromHenryVIII and his six wives, to Tutankhamen, and the doorman at Harrods. This doll is from the Historical Portraits series, an especiallypopular line, still highly sought after by modern collectors.

Peggy regularlyattended collectors’ conventions in America to promote her dolls. Collectorsworldwide would eagerly wait to see the new series of dolls produced by theHouse of Nisbet, whether in national or historical costumes, or dressed asfamous historical figures. At itsheight, the company was the second largest doll manufacturer in Britain.
