Description:

We are delighted to offer this RARE Primitive Antique Full Figure Wax Galloping Horse Sculpture purchased from the Spencer, Nebraska Museum many years ago when it closed. We always treasured & saved this piece of artwork for our own collection but are now at a point in our lives where we need to disperse of some of our treasures. We have been in the antique business for over 51 years & we have yet to see another one like it. It was very hard to accept the limited info on the internet on an item like this. The only comparable wax sculptures I found are on display at the National Museum of Art in Washington, D.C. They were donated to that museum from the private collection of Mr. & Mrs. Paul Mellon. The Mellon\'s wax figure donations had a similar horse mountings with supports and white plaques, which stated their age to be from  1889 -1890. Since the plaque on our sculpture is not legible we cannot say what it is inscribed. The Spencer Museum actually believed our wax sculpture to be older than that...more to the early 1800\'s ... but I could find nothing else remotely like this beauty. It measures approx. 15-1/2\" high x 23-3/4\" long x 8-3/4\" deep and it had wax crack issues when we purchased it and we have done nothing to try to correct any of the issues...for fear of doing more harm than good. In our antique business we have learned over the years to let the professionals do any repair...especially to rare items such as this. We encourage you to view the photos for additional item specifics and condition details and to view any & all damage that may need attention ~ Thank you and may GOD Bless the USA and God bless our beloved Troops & Veterans! FYI:  \"Cork was a naturally sustainable material and was used in the 1880s & 1890s in famous sculptures by artist Edgar Degas? X-rays of these sculptures show pieces of cork in the base and, in some sculptures, wine corks were used in the head of horses. Wax would then cover the cork but the cork itself helps with the support, texture and shape the artist wanted to achieve. We encourage you to view the photos for additional item specifics and condition details  ~ Thank you and may GOD Bless the USA, our Beloved Troops & Veterans!
