RARE - SOBEK Ancient Egyptian Statue, Authentic, Ex. Fine **SPECIAL** (SO20151)

RARE, ANCIENT, AUTHENTIC
SOBEK STATUE
Large, approximately 9.5” tall, 4.5” long Base, 2 & ¼” wide Base. Appears to be clay. Note the hieroglyphics.Estimated from 1799 BC - 1795 BC.
Okay Collectors, here is another of my pieces from collecting for almost 20 years.
Who was SOBEK?
Sobek, or Sobeq, Sebek, Sochet or Suchos, was the ancient god of crocodiles. People all the way to Roman times worshiped Sobek since he represented strength, fertility, and rebirth. He was attributed with creating the Nile River.This piece came from Egypt and I am pleased to email a copy of the International Express Airway Bill from 2010.

NOTE: 2010 is incorrect. I actually purchased this in late 2004 and it was shipped per the Way Bill in 2005. Please excuse the error.

This was obtained from a legitimate dealer in Egypt.

Second Note: I am also told that I may be in error calling the statue Sobek even though the documentation was such from the seller. here is a note I received to that effect: \"Not a question, but

you may better sell this piece under the name Tawaret or Theoris. It is clearly feminine from the crown, lacks any

crocodile features other than the tail (a common Tawaret trait), and is a pregnant hippopotamus on cheetah/lion

legs, resting her arm on the sa/sah symbol which is a symbol of protection she and Bes both hold. If you Google

Tawaret you will see what I mean. Sobek is sometimes shown supporting her from behind in full crocodile form,

but this does not appear to be the case from your images.\"
