~ sale ~

This isone of an eight (8) piece Tiffany Studios Grapevine desk set I recently obtained from a private collection. With unique religious provenance proving ownership by the famed hymn writer and minister Shepherd Knapp of New York! I will be saleing all pieces separately with in other sales.

This is an exquisite very largesigned Tiffany StudiosArt Nouveau letter rack.Featuring four large wide slots for keeping correspondence (most have only three, so this is a rare extra large piece). Each side and each slot displaying a pierced Grapevine pattern with swirled caramel slag glass ground. The top curved rim on the large rear panel is engraved with provenance for the original owner and reads \"REV. SHEPHERD KNAPP FROM MEN\'S ASSOCIATION BRICK CHURCH NEW YORK MARCH 1908\"as can be seen in the photographs. The grapevine was one of the earliest desk set patternsby Tiffany and comprised over 25 different pieces. The glass was either the more common green, blue or the more rare amber/caramel swirl as found in this example.Tiffany Studios produced wonderful and highly collectible art nouveau items prized by collectors from 1878-1933.

The pierced metalwork was designed to be reminiscent of Tiffany\'s stained glass windows. Thisletter rackhascracks and some small missing piecesin the glass with a couple of loose pieces present. The front three panels all have broken and cracked glass, but the piece still displays and looks excellent. The largest rear panel has a single hairline only. There\'sa small dent in the bronze openwork front left corner with the right corner ever soslightly pushed in.Sold in as is condition. Signed \"TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 1007\" on the bottom. Please examine the photographs closely and feel free to ask questions.
