A rareVictorian English solid sterling silver commemorative vesta case. It is hallmarked for Birmingham1896 with the maker’s marks being CSFS for CorneliusDesormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings (Frank) Shepherd. It was made to mark the Diamond Jubilee of QueenVictorian being decorated on one side with the image of the Young Victoria and engraved1837 and on the other the image of the Old Victoria engraved 1897. It is in superb condition being free fromdings splits holes and repairs - just the odd faint mark. The hinge and spring are strong allowing thelid to snap shut as it should. It measures over 1.5 inches (4.1cms) tall by over1 inch (3cms) across excluding the loop and weighs 20 grams. A rare and interesting example.
