RARE Vintage Signed Kirmse Bronze Scottie Scottish Terrier Dog Gorham Co Foundry:

This is an extremely rare bronze Scottish Terrier dog sculpted by the famous engraver Marguerite Kirmse. It was produced in the late 1920\'s by the Gorham Co. Foundry in New York and is fully signed and marked on the dog\'s belly.
Marguerite Kirmse was not only a famous etcher and illustrator, known for her charming engravings of her dogs (Scotties, Field Spaniels, Cairns and other breeds which she nurtured at her estate in Connecticut), but she was also an accomplished sporting dog breeder, exhibitor and later an American Kennel Club judge for several Terrier breeds. Her husband was also an AKC judge and at one time, had been the President of the Scottish Terrier Club of America.
Kirmse produced 4 different Scottie sculptures and used her own dogs as models. She said, in an interview in 1929, that she loved creating her etchings (she would produce 2 series of 5 or 6 etchings each per year and they sold out very quickly), but that she felt she wanted to show her dogs in 3-D. The Gorham Foundry only produced 30 of each of the 4 poses so these little bronzes are very rare and do not come to the market very often.

The sculpting on this Scottie is impeccable. It captures a pose that, if you\'ve ever seen Scotties in real life, you have seen this pose. There are no cracks, chips, repairs. Just an amazing small bronze sculpture for the collector. This bronze is about 3.25\" long x about 1.75\" tall to the top of his tail.
