RARE monumental STIFFEL 50\'s Mid Century VTG modernist lamp:
$788.00

RARE and coveted, monumentally styled STIFFEL lamp, with 7 sockets.
I think it\'s fairly accurate to say that the former Stiffel company, right here in Chicago, made the highest quality mid century lamps in America. Substantial and VERY expensive at the time.Beautifully made and surprisingly heavy. 90% of their designs fell into the very conservative \'traditional\' category. Some rather ordinary walnut ones, but just a handful of the designs fall into the \'modernist\' category. This is one of the more rare and austere, yet thoroughly gorgeous ones. This is the model that pops up on 1stdibs and disappears fast. 4 white enameled \'candles\' holding 4 Xmas sized bulbs. The trademark Stiffel light pod holds 3 normal sized Edison bulbs.
A 35 inch tall lamp with a dramatic presence.
Condition:BRASS PLATE: The brass plate has an even, warm patina with typical age related scuffs. Near excellent. Quite often brass-plated lamps of the era, are plagued with dark pitting (I can only imagine knocked over martinis maybe?)SHADE:The 19 inch wide shade shows areas of discoloration....with one quarter-sized stain. Overall look is quite good, though one might desire a replacement shade.DIFFUSER:The ingenious plastic \'latticed\' diffuser is in excellent shape, with no cracks or melting.
The vertical switch on the brass \'tray\', turns on the candle sticks, or the top cluster or both. Original wiring.
As a mid century lamp lover, collector and seller, my philosophy is simple and two pronged;1) RARITY AND BEAUTY
One can easily buy a great $1000 contemporary lamp from Holly Hunt or Circa lighting, or Flos (to name a few) but the lamps I sell
will never be produced again and I appreciate their rarity.
2) HONESTY
I never sell \"Frankenstein\" lamps (odd pieces slapped together, slathered in new paint (oddly enough usually fire engine red) and passed off as having an exotic (usually Italian, or Gino Sarfatti ) origin.
Buyer beware, I say!
This will ship either FedX home or UPS for safety. If any shipping cost is less it will be refunded without question.
