This charming little drawing by Roy G. Krenkel featuring a panorama from ancient Rome was earmarked for the second Volume of C&S. Roy produced several hundred drawings on the theme of ancient civilizations the first group was collected in the book by L. Sprague De Camp and the second group appeared in the volume Cities and Scenes of the Ancient World published by Owlswick Press. What is lttle known is there was to be a third volume which was never completed but which was to contain drawings that were not used in the first two volumes this being one of them. It comes from a collection of drawings labeled by Roy as \"Not For Sale\" all on the theme of ancient civilizations.These are amongst the artist\'s most prized drawings and have only recently been offered for sale although this one is being offered for the first time. For all collectors these are drawings that should be treasured by one of the greatest pen draftsmen of his period. Roy Krenkel and his friend fFrank Frazetta were amongst the major progenitors of th Second coming of Heroic Fantasy IIlustration . Along with Frazetta Roy has put his seal on many of the conceptual visions for the stories ofBburroughs and Howard that have come down to us. Plans are currently underway for a major retrospective of Krenkel\'s work to coincide with the 100th anniversary of his birth.
