ROY G. KRENKEL \" Swordsmen and Sirens\" An Original Pen Illustration - 8 Images:
$75.00

\"Swordsmen and Sirens\" An Original drawings by Roy G. Krenkel. Pen on a 7.5 x 13.5 piece of drawing paper, see image below. \"Looking back I have always liked the drawings of Frank Frazetta. He was a terrific artist and I have a lot of respect for his talent..But love is another matter. I can respect what Frank did and treasure it but I can never love his work the way I love Roy\'s work. Roy loved the material he illustrated and had an encyclopedic knowledge of it. Frank never had that love and understanding. of much of the material he produced images of. He often overpowered the material and we can find that ability at times awesome but Roy served the writers he was inspired by in his work never over powering it with his own input. . Like Franklin Booth his linear perambulations were never an end in themselves but the bi product of a finely honed mind.\" Al Williamson in a phone conversation from 1983.

These superb ink drawings of a sexy siren and her muscular companion were drawn by Krenkel in the mid 1960s when he was producing some of his most charismatic works. They will appear in the eagerly awaited follow up volume to Sirens and Sibyls due out this Spring from Vanguard Press. These are quintessentially gorgeous drawings that capture the allure of Burroughs\' stories of Barsoom in a way that all fans of the heroic fantasy genre can appreciate. They can be looked at again and again both for the delicacy of their draftsmanship and for the way in which they resonate in the mind as well as the eye. They were produced by one of the greatest -heroic fantasy illustrators of the 20th century. Krenkel . took the images in his mind\'s eye and brought them to life on paper with pen and ink and paint so that future generations could have not only the libretto by the great writers of the fantasy genre but the music as well. His drawings are that music as synonymous with the work of Burroughs and Howard as is the music of Richard Rogers with the libretto of Oscar Hammerstein. As has been said by many\"there was only one Roy G. Krenkel there will never be another.\" , .
The new book of Roy\'s drawings Sirens and Sibyls should be out at the beginning of 2016 after several delays. It\'s currently being shown to a new publisher with the hope that it will be issued in a large folio format instead of the 4to size Vanguard contemplated. Vanguard may still be the publisher of the book but the estate is currently examining other options. There will be a trade edition and a deluxe edition with a large original drawing probably limited to no more than 75 copies. Shipping is $10 for USPS Priority mail for the USA or less, foreign to be determined. We always combine shipping!
