Up for sale at the Grand Antique Mall located in Cincinnati, Ohio is a RARE Antique ROYAL DOULTON Stoneware Drinking PITCHER with a RARE FOXHOUND-SHAPED HANDLE, hunting scenes, and the initials hd of renowned Doulton artist E. Violet Hayward. Circa: 1904.


The exquisitely sculpted foxhound on the handle is a rare feature. Five applied, in-relief, molded English fox hunting scenes encircle the pitcher. The foxhounds are on the chase and in the final scene, capture the fox. The top of the pitcher is deep brown and glazed; here, on the front and back, are in-relief daisies. Made by Royal Doulton, in the Lambeth, South London factory and created by E. Violet Hayward between 1902-1905.


Hallmarks on the bottom include the number 4492, hd initials for E. Violet Hayward, and the new 1901 Doulton mark featuring a lion wearing a crown and standing atop a crown, intersecting D motif, and the word Royal, before Doulton, in celebration of the Royal Warrant grant given to John Doulton by King Edward VII in 1901. The mark was used through 1922.


Doulton & Company was established by John Doulton at Lambeth, South London, in 1815. He hired only the finest artists to create Doulton porcelain and stoneware.
