Peter the Great as Ruler & Reformer, X.

Reform
Written by Eugene Schuyler

1881

DESCRIPTION AND CONDITION:

This is an original, antique magazine article from a 1881 issue of Scribner\'s Monthly. It is NOT the entire issue of the magazine. The article is 12 pages long and has 6 illustrations.

This article is part of series of 12 different articles about Peter the Great. I do have some other parts to that series, but not the whole thing. This particular article focuses on the ways Peter the Great reformed Russia. It includes the war with Turkey and with Sweden, the arrival of Charles XII, the Campaign on the Purth, 1711, his marriage to Empress Catherine I, and the difficult negotiations with the Turks.

PETER I THE GREAT or Pyotr Alexeyevich Romanov (Russian: 1672-1725), was the Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias and the Duke of Estonia and Livonia. He ruled Russia and later the Russian Empire from 1682 until his death, jointly ruling before 1696 with his weak and sickly half-brother, Ivan V. Peter the Great carried out a policy of Westernization and expansion that transformed the Tsardom of Russia into the 3-billion acre Russian Empire, a major European power.

To find an article about this topic, in its\' original publication, 128 years old, NOT A REPRINT, is a very rare and exciting find! A MUST for any serious scholar, collector or enthusiast!

LIST OF ILLUSTRATIONS:

  • Count Tolstoi
  • The Arrest of a Spy

A wonderful, historic item and an obscure collectible!

Documentation of the source of this item will be included.

The item is in very good condition, no markings, no writing or underlining, no odors, no wear. The pages came from a bound magazine, and one of the vertical sides shows evidence of this once having been bound--namely stitching holes along the edge. The pages are evenly tanned with age. There is no foxing. The pages measure approximately 6-1/2\" x 9-3/8\". the article was printed in 1881 and the paper is still supple, not fragile or brittle.
