These holy Martyrs dwelt in Italy in thereign of Hadrian (117-138). They came of a rich and devout family and theirmother Sophia brought them up in the Faith, Hope and Love of the names she hadgiven them. They were put to death after terrible tortures. Their memories arecelebrated on September 17 (30).

The Lord is depicted at thetop. Guardian Angel is at the left margin, Saint Nicolas is at the right.

This modern Russian Orthodox icon was painted by a modern professionalchurch artist at the Russian town Yaroslavl (notfar from Moscow)that is one of the main and old centers of the Russian icon painting.

The icon was painted on a very old (at least 19 c.) wooden board coveredwith levkas (gesso, special priming) with egg tempera and gold paints that usethe small parts of leaf gold. The style is traditional and strictly followsantique canons of the icon painting.

Image of the Lord is enclosed in a small metal frame.

There are twooriginal wooden wedges at the back to prevent the board from warping.

Size = 13.8x11.2x1 (35x28.5x2.5 cm). Weight = 1380 gr.
