This icon depicts SaintNicolas the Miracle Worker the bishop of Myrain the IV century. He is one of the most popular Saints in the world. People ofvarious occupations claim him as patron. He saved sailors from terrible storm,helped poor and saved innocents from the axe. He is the Holy patron of Russia, patronof Travelers, saves from flood and poverty.

This is so called\"Summer\" Nicolas whose feast is on May. He is depicted bare headed. The \"Winter\"Nicolas is depicted in his Bishop\'s hat.

This modern Russian Orthodox icon was painted by a modern professionalchurch artist at the Russian town Yaroslavl (notfar from Moscow)that is one of the main and old centers of the Russian icon painting.

The icon was painted on a wooden board covered with levkas (gesso,special priming). It was painted then with egg tempera and gold paints that usethe small parts of leaf gold. Enamel paints were also used. They create arelief ornament. The style is traditional and strictly follows antique canonsof the icon painting.

There is an originalwooden wedge at the back to prevent the board from wrapping.

Size = 6.7x5.9x0.8 (17.5x15x2 cm). Weight = 274 gr.
