The subject of the icon is based onthe Biblical story about the visit by three Angels to the Prophet Abraham andhis wife Sarah (Genesis, 18: 1- 8 and passim).

The feast day is on the Pentecost:the fiftieth day after the Easter.

Thismodern Russian Orthodox icon was painted by a modern professional church artistat the Russian town Yaroslavl (not far from Moscow) that is one of themain and old centers of the Russian icon painting.

Theicon was painted on a very old (at least 19 c.) wooden board covered withlevkas (gesso, special priming) with egg tempera and gold paints that use thesmall parts of leaf gold. The style is traditional and strictly follows antiquecanons of the icon painting.

Thereare two original wooden wedges at the top and the bottom edges of the board toprevent it from warping.

Theicon is of so called \"lectern\" size that it suitable for a church aswell as for a private house.

Size= 17.3x14.2x1.2 (44x36x3 cm). Weight = 2350 gr.
