The \"end of days,\" or \"latter days,\" from the Hebrew \"acharei hayamim,\" is a recurrent theme in the Torah and prophets. The patriarch Jacob in Genesis 49:1, the lawgiver Moses in Deuteronomy 4:20, the seer Balaam in Numbers 24:14, the prophets Isaiah (2:2), Jeremiah (23:20), Ezekiel (38:8), Hosea (3:5), and Daniel (8:19, 12:1-4) all speak of \"the end of days;\" but there is little study material available on this topic in Jewish sources. Rabbi Tauber\'s book fills this need with commentary drawn from talmud, zohar and rabbinical commentary. He relates these prophecies to the catastrophe of the Holocaust that he survived, and to the Teshuva movement that arose in the generation following the Holocaust. Rabbi Tauber uses fictional characters representative of these generations and their perspectives to ask and answer questions concerning the Divine Plan for Jews in particular and for mankind in general.
I think the purpose of this book is summarized on p.37 where Rabbi Tauber writes: \"The Torah is not a book written by inspired holy men. It is much more than that. It is the blueprint of creation. A blueprint has everything mapped out. So, too, in the blueprint of creation, the Creator has mapped out everything, from the events of the first day of creation to the final days.\" And p.38: \"...our sages say: \'Who is wise? One who recognizes his place.\' We have an obligation to recognize our place in history and evaluate where we are ... What I try to show through my lecture on the prophecies is that Jewish people returning to and reassessing teshuva -- is one of the telltale signs of the era called ikvesa d\'meshicha, \'the footsteps of the Messiah.\'\"
