Rare early 18th c English Antique Band sampler created in 1720 by Rebekah Hooper in England, unframed. It is in beautiful condition for a sampler that is just 3 years off being 300 years old.Linen is still in very good condition and a lovely light shade, embroidery colours are very bright for age.

Rebekah has worked several different border patterns, and a series of alphabets and numbers, as well as signing her name, date, and England. Quality of stitches is very fine indeed and shows Rebekah clear accomplishment with the needle.Samplers at this time were most often worked to teach young girls needlework skills to prepare them for future employment, and rolled up and kept for reference, rather than being displayed in frames. It looks most likely that this one has been stored in such a way as the colours are incredibly good for the age of the sampler.
