We are offering for sale this very hard to find antique Jandus electric fan made by The Adams Bagnall Electric Co. of Cleveland, Ohio. The company was formed in 1895 by Thomas Adams and E.J. Bagnall both former employees of The Swan Lamp Mfg. Co. also of Cleveland.

There is a brass plate showing this fan as model number 54388 with patent dates of Aug. 13, 1895 and June 25, 1901. This is a stationary fan and does not oscillate. It has knobs on both sides to allow the motor to be tilted up or down for directing the air flow.

It stands about 18\" tall and weighs almost 23 pounds. It is a two speed fan however it only works on one speed. It may just need some adjusting on the switch mechanism under the base. It does run very quietly and smoothly with a strong breeze and no rattles.

The blades and wire cage are both brass and in very good condition. The inner cage ring is about 13\" in diameter while the outside ring is about 11 1/2\". There are some bends in some of the wire which could be easily reshaped if desired. There is a break in one of the brass sleeves connecting the wire on one cage ring which could easily be replaced but not really necessary (see last photo). There is some paint loss and minor rust on the motor housing and base. The cord is about 3 feet long and in fairly good condition while the cord from the base to the motor has been wrapped with black electrical tape.

For a fan that is 115 years old, it is in quite good condition that you will not be disappointed in and a must have for any serious collector. It could also be used as an every day fan however you should probably have new cords installed for that purpose. It is quite heavy and stable so it could be used as a desk or floor fan. A similar fan recently sold on for over $1400. Thanks for looking and be sure to check out our store for a variety of interesting quality items.
