Rare Cast Iron Fox Head Tombstone Style Fireplace Cover or Insert
We revised this listing on 10-19-14 after we were able to come up with a more realistic date of manufacture which is right around the year 1900 judging from the casting and the thickness of the casting.
This is an original casting (circa 1900) not one of the more modern reproductions you usually see listed on from time to time. I purchased this beautiful fireplace cover or fireplace back cover insert from an Estate Sale in Rochester, N.Y.
This cast iron fireplace cover is unusually heavy - weighing in at 60 pounds. It measures 23\" wide - 25 1/2\" tall in the center - 22 1/2\" tall on either end - the edges are 3/8\" thick - the Fox head extends 5 1/4\"Aside from the surface rust, the item is in excellent condition for it\'s age - there are no cracks or breaks.
Due to it\'s size and weight and the rarity of the item, it should be crated for shipping - something I\'m not equipped to do.
I will deliver it free within a 50 mile radius of Corning, NY or deliver it free to the local UPS Store for packing and shipping (shipping arrangements and charges are your responsibility).
The item can be viewed and/or picked up at Twin Tiers Antiques Plaza, 67 West Market Street, Corning, NY. There is no pick up charge.
The cat, named Tommy, is not included.We believe this Fireplace Cover was made to order and is quite possibly a one of a kind item.
