RARE 1859 JACOB\'S DOUBLE RIFLE SWORD/ BAYONET, SWORD:
$945.95

1859 JACOB\'S DOUBLE RIFLE SWORD/ BAYONET Overall length 35 1/2\"
Blade length 30 1/4\"
Double fullered , double edged blade 1/4\" thick at ricasso.Based on a Scottish basket hilt design this overbuilt sword/bayonet,
was designed by a military mad genius to accompany his double percussion rifle.
Made by Swinburn and sons in England with Kirschbaum Soligen blades
Only a thousand were ever produced making this one of the rarest of all British weapons.
The rifles saw service in many engagements in India and elsewhere and even have been reported
in the US Civil war. This particular one was owned by Captain Henry Adams of the 9th Pennsylvania Regiment,
Company K , United States Volunteer Infantry, 3rd Battalion.
As a well to do mining engineer from a wealthy family.
Henry could have chosen any sword he wanted
instead he wore this old sword with aged wood grips with worn down brass tacks.
I have not had time to properly research why.
Other than some play and a missing tack in the grips,
a few edge chips and some slight bends in the blade
it is in great shape for an untouched 130 year old sword
and still rings like a bell.It will come with the photo and letter of COA.
My brief research did not substantiate the combat claims for Co K
However I\'m sure that Vintage collectible showcase
