M1889 SWISS SCHMIDT RUBIN BAYONET WITH SCABBARD MASCHINENFABRIK BERN.
Beautiful bayonet. The steel looks nice and shinny; the wood scales are solid in great condition with minor handling marks, no dents cracks or chips. The blade is very nice bright with some scratches that are hard to show but you can see them on the last two pictures; it looks like somebody tried to slightly sharpened at some point with no major grinding marks. The scabbard is in great shape with no dents and minor handling marks and or discoloration; the bluing looks good and it fits the bayonet tightly.
The M1889 was the first bayonet type made for the Schmidt-Rubin, with no rivet or ridge in the fuller This is the original model with no hump or rivet in the fuller. Most original models were retrofitted with fuller rivets so few original configuration M1889 bayonets remain intact; unaltered early examples like this one are scarce.(NOT Carbines and not K31s)Knife bayonet for use on the 7.5 mm. Schmidt-Rubin M1889 and M1911 straight-pull rifles (not Carbines and not K31s) The leather tab on the scabbard is for securing the scabbard in the belt frog.
