A Great Early Table Standing Wrought Iron 18th Century Splint/Candleholder

This classic design is seen in countless reference books not only on early wrought iron, but period American design and early lighting. For similar examples illustrated in books, see \"Furniture Treasury\" by Wallace Nutting, \"The Sorber Collection\" by Don Plummer, \"Fire and Light in the Home Pre-1820\" by Caspall and \"Antique Iron\" by Schiffer.

The piece as you can see of a tripod scrolling footed construction.

Measures 17 3/4\" tall with a base gait of just about 9\" between the legs.

Splint holders allowed a piece of pine to be held via the spring jawed mechanism, the wood burning using sap or soaked in grease; the piece could of course held candles and rush reeds as well. Note the great counter balance hanging weight, a square shape with four punched in \"orb\" decorations to the top of it.
