Rare 18thCentury Antique Sevres Porcelain Painted Portrait Plate of Two Ladies, 1758.

9” dia, c. 1758.

The centerpainting in color enamels of a pastoral setting with two young ladies, oneconsoling the other after receipt of a letter. A church with tall steeple is inthe background. Pink painted ground of the plate well & rim. Three painted floralbouquets in color enamels reserved on the rim. Gilt bands frame the center& the rim medallions & fine gilt foliated scrolls extend from themedallion frames. There is the characteristically Sevres period design elementin the gilt formed by burnishing across the gilt bands & the gilt rim decorations.

Blue by handover-glaze reverse interlaced L’s mark of the Sevres Royal Factory. Date code“F” within corresponding to 1758 and painter’s mark below of Cardin who paintedfor the factory from 1749 to 1786 and became head painter in 1793. By handscript J in the paste under-glaze. Red by hand old accession or collection number“1888.760”.

Three kiln stilt marksground smooth on the reverse. Fine condition with no damage of any kind.
