Rare 18thC Caughley Polychrome Porcelain Shell Dish Plate Porzellan Antique:
$1999.00

For sale is a rare softpaste porcelain polychrome shell shaped dish made by Caughley around 1790-93. It is superbly decorated at Chamberlain studio at Worcester in the center with a ruin in a landscape surrounding, surrounded by some nice gilding, lots of colorful small cornflowers, a pink blue and green border design which is quite intricate and highlighted with gilding and the finishing touch of more gilding to the rim and handle. The central scene is simpler than on the other dish and the writeup stated that there were at least three artists working on this service. Some I think show an influence of the famous Duvivier which worked at the studio around this time. This piece comes from a recently discovered service which has been discussed and illustrated by Chris Brown in his paper \"A Polychrome Dessert Service\". A rare and fun find in a nice shape! The piece is in good condition with some wear to the gilding and four small rim chips as shown none of which take away from this great piece and if needed would be a quick, easy and cheap fix. The dish is 2 inches tall, 7.5 inches deep and 7.875 inches wide. It is not marked underneath which is not uncommon for Caughley pieces of this era.
