For sale is a rare figurine made by Kloster Veilsdorf in the 18th century. My first one in fact which kind of tells you how rare they are. Kloster-Veilsdorf was the most important Thuringian factory of the 18th century. It was founded in 1760 by Prince von Hildburghausen with the help of the arcanist Meyer. In 1795 the factory went to the Duke of Sachsen Altenburg who sold it to the Greiner family who owned most of the other makers in this region by then. The figurine is a well known model (possibly one of the four seasons) but the hand painted detail on it is much nicer than any other one I have come across. Well modeled young man sitting on an upside down basket while eating grapes from his hat. The green pants are very nice but the tiny flower garlands hand painted on his shirt are just amazing! The piece is unmarked which is common on their figures but it is definitely by them! The figure is in great condition with two chips to the hat which have been restored (one is only on the underside), the leaves of the grapes in his hand are chipped and the base has had two chips restored to the edge of the base mostly to the underside. An amazing piece by a small but important maker! The piece is 4.875 inches tall, 2.75 inches wide and 2.375 inches deep.
