RARE 1939 HAMILTON SIDNEY GOLD TONED VINTAGE ART DECO MENS WATCH 987A:
$230.00

This is a an ideal classic for the Art Deco collector.
The 1939 Hamilton Sidney echos many design details of the 1930\'s. Produced through 1940, the Sidney features a stepped case that to me looks like folded angels wings. It has a handsome lookon the wrist.
The 1930\'s were the golden age of Hamilton watches. For lot of collectors, their favorite genre of watches is the 1930\'s. A lot happened in the 1930s; the Elinvar hairspring was invented, the 14/0 sized movement was introduced, the 12/0 401 grade from the Illinois Watch Co. powered several highly collectible models, the 6/0 sized 987 movement evolved through the 987F, 987E and the 987A grades and the Art Deco era had a huge design influence on the models.
Hamilton stopped making the original model 987 in 1929 and introduced the \"improved jeweling\" or what we call friction jeweling. The jewel is held in place by friction between the jewel hole and the stone itself. In 1937. Hamilton began producing a movement with the Swiss Elinvar hairspring and a monometallic balance and was designated as the 987 A. Hamilton produced approximately 490,000 model 987A’s.
Consider Hamilton wristwatches as the best American watches ever made.
1939 HAMILTON SIDNEY first year of production 1937, last year of production 1948.
