For sale is a very early and superb cup and saucer set made by Meissen in about 1740-1745. The shape is superb and the decoration is top as well. This is the shorter wider version of the ten cups I have for the set. For tea I presume. The colors are a bit stronger than in the pictures in real life for some reason. There is a large floral arrangement handpainted on the front and then there are lots of bugs and a small flower scattered throughout as well. From a little ladybug to the gorgeous large butterfly. Nice and rare handle shape as well! Nice brown trim on the rims. The flowers on these pieces are much more natural looking and much more detailed than later ones. The cup and saucer are in superb condition with just one spot of wear to the blue flower on the saucer. The cup is just over 2 inches tall, 3.5 inches from front to back without the handle and just under 3 inches wide. The saucer is 1.25 inches tall, 5.375 inches wide and 4.75 inches deep. Both pieces are marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark underneath (not sure why I forgot to take a picture of the mark on the cup but it is there). There is an impressed 3 underneath the saucer and an impressed 17 underneath the cup. This is one of the cups and saucers to the rest of the set I have up on the site.
