SUPERB ANTIQUE CHINESE SILVER BASKET, SIGNED

Late 19th-century (c1890) Chinese Export solid silver dish with pierced decorations, swing handle and sits on a collet foot.

Exquisitelyornamentedwith hand chased and repousse pierced decorations of dense bamboo plants,interspersed by flowers and birds.

Each section has a different theme, flanked by the spreading wings of a bat. An upside down bat has particularmeanings in Chinese ideograph for \'fortune arriving\' (褔到).

Decoration with bats in Chinese silver are rarely seen. This dish has four upside down bats, one at each corner.

One section has a crane bird resting amongst flowers. Another has cherry blossom, and, one with a large chrysanthemum.

The decorations are crisp and highly detailed.

The dish is fully marked, bearing silversmith WA, plus a signed Chinese chop mark by the artisan.

The basket is free of any personal monograms or crests.

The silver has been tested and guaranteed to be high grade .900 or above.

Good size and heavy gauge.
