Antique Doulton Serving Set
This is a rare three-piece antique Doulton serving set. This set includes a covered dish and underplate. It dates to the late 1880s.
This lovely set is hand decorated with underglaze flow blue flowers, with gold designs applied above the glaze. The handle is in a bamboo pattern in a solid indigo with gold trim. The underplate is marked with the famed Doulton's Burslem impressed mark in addition to an impressed "8=85", and an underglaze "U". The covered dish has the matching underglaze "U" as well as an impressed Doulton's mark. While the three pieces are a set, the underplate and covered dish could easily be used separately.
The underplate measures 7-1/8" x 6-1/8" inches. The covered dish measures approximately 5-3/4" x 4-7/8" x 2-1/2". These pieces are in very good condition. There is minor crazing and some discoloration inside the dish. There is a small, shallow flake near the bottom corner edge of the underplate, not visible from the top side.
