This is a gorgeous early American, likely a Native American doll discovered just outside of Buffalo NY, home of many significant Native American tribes. A collector I spoke with said that this likely dates from the 1700\'s or even earlier!

This offering is sure delight a serious collector. He will appeal to fine art, doll or historical collectors as you will not find another early example like it ever again.

He is 20\" long. The clothing is all hand made and there are several layers of fine antique materials. There is some damage because the material is very frail and brittle, as expected of a doll this old. There are a couple of minor stains near the hem but believe me, these will hardly deflect from the charm of this historic doll.

The head appears to be made of paper mâché or cloth and it is extremely heavy! Based on feeling the upper, it seems that the head is part of a chest plate. One arm has completely lost its filling. A good conservator could repair it. The previous owner did a poor job trying to contain the damage and I never attempt to fix antique items, as preferred by true collectors. A conservator could help fix this relatively inexpensively. The body is made of fabrics and sawdust.

One of the strands of beads is broken but the beads are gorgeous!

This doll likely belongs in a museum. The former owner said it came from a museum and that the doll contained an original museum tag. She pointed out that the tag was written on with a quill pen and it certainly appears that way.
