On offer isthis lot of 6 (12 pieces total) early Spode cup and saucer in Imari #2283 richly gilded and sometimes considered one of the \"candlelight patterns\" named such for the rich glow given off by the heavy gilt flourishes. Deep cobalt and iron red tones set upon a white ground and set off with rich gold flourishes. The form of this cup and saucer is very scarce and very old. This large cup was meant for morning tea and deep saucer meant to pour the tea in to cool before drinking. Verified a very early set with a deeper form undersaucer (similar to a modern fruit or desert bowl/dish) and large cup (in proportion to what would have been sold as a bullion or broth cup in the 19th and early 20th century) with late 1700s early 1800s red underglaze mark reading:

All pairs are in terrific condition. One cup has fleabite roughness to top rim. All else in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or repairs.

From a fine old Memphis estate of a family who owned the Cotton Exchange following during the reformation and through the 21st century - The Hohenberg Family. We have many other very scarce English China pieces from this estate we will be listing.

Measures saucer is 16.5 cm diameter across or 6 1/2\" inches and 3 cm 1 1/4\" inches deep. Cup is 12.7 or 5\" inches across (including handle) and 7.3 cm or 2 7/8\" inches tall with 11.4 cm or 4 1/2\" inches diameter across top opening and 5.7 cm or 2 1/4\" inches diameter across footed bottom.
