Description:An extremely rare antique Russian Ukrainian Imperial faience serving platter, Kievo-Mezhigorskii Factory, 1851. The border with the Imperial eagle in the version in use during the reign of Emperor Nicholas I with lowered wings with torch and wreath held in its claws, probably transfer printed, the outer border decorated with two blue bands, the reverse impressed with the factory mark (KIEB) and date as well as the number ’67’, probably a model number. Some wear and scratching to surface consistent with age and use, two small chips to the 19 1/8 in. (48.5 cm); width 14 5/8 in. (37.1 cm).
Condition:Very rare example of Imperial faience (majolica). Ceramic body is more fragile than porcelain, so there are a small number of small chips and one larger chip to the edges, glaze has some scratching as expected for an object of this age.
