This sale is for a great pair of 1920s art deco bookends. Each bookend features a beautiful lady sitting Indian style and reading a book. She is backed by a large green umbrella and her breasts are exposed. The rest of her pink dress drapes around her bare legs. These bookends are listed in the \"Encyclopedia of Bookends\" by Kuritzky and have a rarity rating of 5 with 5 being the rarest. I have seen only a handful of these sold over the last decade and this is the only painted pair I have ever seen. They are cast in a heavy metal with a bronze finish. The backs are gilded with the number 64 at the very bottom. There is use-related wear to the extremities of the paint and some areas of the bronze finish, and there are a handful of small dings around the edges with a chip in the underside that would be concealed if they were refelted. The bookends are otherwise in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, repairs or gouges. They measure approximately 6 1/2\" tall x 5 1/2\" wide x 3\" deep.
