Rare Mission Chestnut Blanket Chest attributed to Ernest Batchelder (a native of Nashua, New Hampshire before moving to California working with the Arroyo Craftsmen). The repeated Chinese lily design is reminiscent of a woodblock. Batchelder was strongly influenced by William Morris and was for a time the President of the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts. ht. 17 3/4, wd. 30 1/2, dp. 17 1/2. Original finish, minor scuffs. This is the chest featured on the cover of the Mission Furniture book by Schiffer Publishing. (For similiar lot see Christies Sale September 2005, 1546, lot 189. This lot was refinished. A smaller shirt box size was sold at David Rago, September 26, 1999, Lot 817.) Available for pick up at our warehouse only. Comes with original book depicting this item on cover.
