A RARE Small Old Vintage Zuni RAINBOW MAN Multi-ColorMosaic Overlay Bolo Tie exquisitely handcrafted from sterling silver (.925) and featuring intricate and complex Mosaic work! Due to unique identifiable details, this Bolo has been attributed to Oliver Cellicion (1913 - 1996), the oldest of the Cellicion brothers. Oliver and his wife Angela are famous for their Rainbow Man pieces, and are referenced in Volume 1 of ZUNI: THE ART AND THE PEOPLE, Barton Wright\'s HALLMARKS OF THE SOUTHWEST, and in Toshio Sei\'s book, Knifewing and Rainbow Man in Zuni Jewelry. This Bolo has remarkable similarities and features that can be seen in a photo of a small Knifewing bolo that Sei has documented as attributed to Oliver Cellicion. Sei noted the similarities to Tourist Souvenir pieces of the era, but commented that \"...the intricate and complex mosaic work, exceeds the level of ordinary souvenir pieces.\"

To the Zuni, the Rainbow Man is a sacred being associated with precious summer rains and the beautiful colors of the heavens. The tiered headdress represents rain clouds. It is written that the Rainbow Man design was most likely descended from the Shield of the Priesthood of the Bow, and original jewelry pieces depicting this sacred figure were used for religious or other tribal use. This RARE Small RAINBOW MAN Bolo Slide measures 1-7/16\" long by 7/8\" at widest point. The Intricate Inlay of this Bolo Slide features pieces of skillfully hand cut andbeautifully aged Turquoise, Jet, Red Spiny Oyster (Spondylus) andWhite Mother-of-Pearl. This Gorgeous Collection of Stones features a variety of cut sizes and geometric shapes with a beautifully polished surface to create theOustanding Detail! Due to its smaller size, each section of the Rainbow Man is separated, consisting of flat surfaced intricate and complex slightly raised stone-to-stone inlay patterns set in individual very finely serrated deep silver channels. Accenting the Bolo Slide are eight (8) flattened silver raindrop beads along the arch of the back and two (2) on the opposite side. However, it is the half black, half white headdress, the shape and stonework of the face, the simple single loop silver wire ear ornaments, and the similarity in combinations of stone work and stone use that are the basis for attributing this Beautiful Bolo to Oliver Cellicion.

The back of the Bolo Slide is fit with a stamped \"BENNETT PAT. PEND. C-31\" Closure that functions perfectly to hold the cord tie in place and allow for adjustment. The Cord Tie shows some age, however is made from well-conditioned and well-preserved braided black leather. Cord Tie measures approximately 35\" end-to-end, and is fit withGorgeous Original Old Sterling Silver Bead Ball Tips that measure a stout1-1/2\" in length. These Bolo Tips feature stampwork at the top and bottom, also seen in photographs ofOliver and Angela Cellicion\'s work. Unmarked. Bolo weighs approximately 23.5 grams! Superb Old Vintage condition!
