Alex Beckers Revolving Stereoscope / Stereopticon Viewer

Circa 1859

Rare and Unusual ~ Fabulous floor model Victorian Rosewood viewer ~ The rosewood grain is rich and spectacular

Though there is NO tag of identification ~ pretty much all viewers with a revolving belt are referred to as Beckers style, if not actually one of his own products. Beckers viewers could be had in any form from simple table top models, to HIGHEND furniture quality FLOOR MODELS.

This floor standing viewer 4\' (48\") tall with a base of 16\" square ~ incorporates a removable \"sweetheart\" style second lens panel for viewing stereo cards back to back.

There are two sets of lens - (one on each side) one as mentioned above, the other viewing lens is adjustable (by moving the lens in/out for eye adjustment)

There are also, two round wooden knobs (one on each side) to adjust the cards, etc. for viewing and used to rotate the view cards.

Also, the DOUBLE eye pieces on each side lend it self for two people to view images at the same time.

Panels on the top (mirrored) were opened to reflect light down onto the cards. The belt holds 250 glass, or 500 printed viewer cards \"(?) I have not counted them\"

Ultimately, the belt system has some severe limitations. Views have to be evenly spaced around the belt, and there is no means to positively locate each view behind the lenses.

The Phenomenal Rosewood casehas the shape of a OBELISK - with shaped quarter corners and applied wooden carved decorative handles and decorative base accents.

There is NO noted damage -- in Very Good working condition ~~ and retains that rich dark patina.
