Wonderful bookends celebrating Charles Lindbergh\'s solo New York to Paris flight in 1927. This is the only set I\'ve ever seen.A relief of Lindy is surrounded by a globe decorated with outlines of the East and West coasts that flank the Atlantic and topped with an American Eagle. His signature is presented on the top of the base; and the front says, \"Spirit of USA, 1927.\" I assume \"USA\" because \"St. Louis\" would be too long. The name of the artist is formed into the side of the base but I can\'t make it out.Bronze-clad, a manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze was made to adhere to a plaster form through the process of electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900\'s to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze yet still were affordable by the middle class. One of those companies was Armor Bronze, operating in NYC at least as early as the 19-teens. Their full name is formed into the backs.Condition is excellent. Other than flea-bite nicks here and there, the only issue I find is that one eagle got bumped from the front which caused wrinkling in the cladding around and behind it. See my last photo. Otherwise, no breaks in the cladding, no mashed corners on the bases. Both pieces sit flat and stable.6 1/2 inches tall; base is 5 1/2 X 2 1/4 inches. And weighing a bit over 3 pounds EACH PIECE.Perfect gift for the collector of things Lucky Lindy. [If you have not read Bill Bryson\'s \"One Summer, America 1927,\" then you have a treat in store]US shipping only. USPS priority. I pack with care.I SPECIALIZE IN ANTIQUE BOOKENDS AND DECORATIVE OBJECTS. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR INTERESTING AND UNUSUAL ITEMS.
