Rare Christopher Radko Paper Mache Nativity made by Marolin in Germany. This set has all the pieces from the original 1994 issue.
Only 300 nativity sets were handmade exclusively for Christopher Radko. All the pieces come with their original tags!
This set was displayed and some of the pieces have slight signs of wear.
The nativity is laid out in groups (Shepards, wise men, etc.) each group has their own tag.The figures range in height from 2 inches tall (angel) to 8 inches (elephant). Most of the upright figures are between 6 and 7 inches. The nativity figures are scaled by height for depth purposes. So the small figures are closer to Joseph and Mary, while the larger peripheral figures are slightly larger scale.

Marolin Figures:
Since the year 1900, Paper Mache/Porcelain sculptures have been created in Germany by the renowned Studio Marolin. Expert mold makers maintain and improve the antique molds. These antique molds were buried over the past 40+ years and only recently recovered with the fall of the Berlin Wall. The ingredients of the Marolin family turn of the century recipe supports today\'s ecological concerns. Each figure is made from a special paper mache mixture of kaolin, chalk, paper fibers, organic paste, and clay. The mixture is then poured into plaster of paris molds which draw out the water resulting in a bisque like finish. The figures require approximately one to three weeks to produce. The sculptures are hand finished, hand painted and hand antiqued, demonstrating the artists masterly skill and love of detail.
