The is an sale for an extremely rare early boudoir doll called the \"Cubeb\" that was created in the 1920\'s bya Tobacco company to promote its cubeb cigarettes among the newly “liberated” flappers of the “Roaring Twenties” era. It is very similar to the felt Lenci Fadette of the same period, which was also the rage among society ladies and film and stage stars who collected them and often carried them as accessories.

This doll and its trademark felt pantsuit (or pajamas) was most likely created by Samuel Haskell in 1925 and produced by the Mutual Doll Corp. between 1925 and 1929, which indicates that very few of this kind of doll were made. She is almost 27” tall and jointed and completely posable at the neck, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees.

Very similar to a wooden artist’s mannequin, this kind of doll is made of wood and composition and as such, usually does not survive intact. Composition dolls may be found, but they are often cracked, chipped or badly crazed due to rough handling or extremes in temperature and humidity where they are stored or displayed.

Condition: Other than some paint flaking, I can see no sign of any crazing on the surface of the doll that could lead to later serious problems. Her hair is thinning a little and other than overall fading of her green felt outfit, there are no major problems with this beauty. She retains her original cigarette and is still wearing her ribbon-tied high heels which are usually lost or broken or missing a heel. To find a Cubeb is this amazing condition is almost a miracle!

Important note: In my close-up photos of her face, the right eye appears faded with some lost eye shadow and color in the iris, but in person this is less apparent than in my oversized photos and she displays wonderfully.

Also, any lines on her face in some of the photos are loose strands of hair on her forehead and cheeks, not craze lines!

I really know nothing about these dolls other than that they are so similar to the felt Lenci Fadettes. I apologize for the gazillions of photos I have included below, but I wanted to show as much as possible about this incredibly rare doll. I would just feel more comfortable letting my many photos show you what you need to know.

P.S. There is a tiny Snoopy-like dog peeking out from a pocket in one of the photos. Alas, he is not included in this sale.
