Rare Daniel Cagle Whynot NC Salt Glaze Butter Churn Incised by Daughter - As Is :
$125.00

3 Gallon salt glaze butter churn believed to be made but Daniel Cagle of Whynot, North Carolina. Reason for attribute is his daughter Artimitia inscribed it to someone she cared about. Also a handwritten note from a previous owner with history on the piece. He was also known to not always stamp or sign his pottery, could be one of the reasons it is so hard to find.
I will start with the bad: as you can see the top has been broken apart with some pieces reattached and others long gone. There is also a tight crack at the bottom.
The good: Incised inscription as follows:
Remember Me Would You (If I read the last 2 words correctly)
Remember Me As A Friend
Artimitia Lousada Cagle
The handwritten note that came with it is in the photos.
About 17 inches tall, about 9 inches across the middle, and about 8 inches across the base.
Will be packed very carefully in an oversized box.
