Rare. Early 18thc Antique Band, spot Motif Crowns, Sampler.margrit Walbvtt 1733:
Rare early 18th c Antique Band and Spot Motif Sampler in good condition consistent for its age of 284 years old. Samplers of this age do not come up for sale often.
The sampler was created by Margrit Walbvtt in 1733.She has carefully stitched a range of alphabets, along with a host of crowns in the top half of the sampler. In the lower half she has stitched a series of border patterns, followed by deer and flowers, and in the final section she has signed and dated her work:"Margrit Walbvtt, 1733"
A lovely sampler, stitches good for age, colours softened with time, mainly greens, browns, beiges, linen ground good for age with toning, this sampler has great charm to it.It is in a faux tortoiseshell frame which is sound and has age but later than the sampler. Samplers of this time would have mainly been rolled up and used for reference and to show accomplishment of the young girl for future employment etc.
Size:23 x 48 cms inc frame.
An opportunity to purchase a rare early 18thc sampler, a great piece of 18thc social history.
It would make a wonderful addition to a sampler collection or a unique gift for a special occasion.
