A truly magnificent, Louis Wain picture, of superb quality.Just a very nice beautifulpicture and theworkmanship is simply exquisite.I\'m afraid my photos aren\'t doing thismagnificent pen and ink drawing truejustice, because thelight refection is hindering the exquisite visual appeal, of this spectacular picture. In real life the picture is a lot crisper. Whoever purchases this picture will not be disappointed because itsundoubtedly a stunning work of art, one of the best we\'ve seen.

We have removed this pen and ink drawing from its frame, cleaned, checked and authenticated that this drawing is completely genuine and that the paper definately does date from the correct era, circa 1915, and as you can just see, the picture also does has a very minute amount of discolouration, commensurate with 99 years of age, but nothing unusual.

This pen and ink drawing has also been shown to a couple of art experts, and both honestly believe this is the genuine drawing from page 28 of the 1915 Louis Wain Annual. So with these factors in mind this exquisite pen and ink drawing has been priced accordingly.

Louis Wain (5 August 1860 – 4 July 1939)

An English artistbest known for his drawings, which consistently featured anthropomorphisedlarge-eyed catsand kittens.Louis William Wain was born inClerkenwellinLondon. His father was a textile trader and embroiderer; his mother was French. He was the first of six children, and the only male child.

Louis Wain studied at the West London School of Art and eventually became a teacher there for a short period. At the age of 20, Wain was left to support his mother and his five sisters after his father\'s death.Wain soon quit his teaching position to become a freelance artist, and in this role he achieved substantial success. He worked for several journals including theIllustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, and theIllustrated London News.

At the age of 23, Louis Wain married his sisters\'governess, Emily Richardson, who was ten years his senior (which was considered quite scandalous at the time), and moved with her toHamsteadin north London. Emily soon began to suffer from cancer, and died three years into their marriage. Prior to Emily\'s death, Louis Wain discovered the subject that would define his career. During her illness, Emily was comforted by their pet cat Peter, a stray white/black kitten they had rescued after hearing him mewing in the rain one night. Emily\'s spirits were greatly lifted by Peter, and Louis began to draw extensive sketches of him, which Emily strongly encouraged him to have published. She died before this happened, but he continued to make cat sketches. He later wrote of Peter, \"To him, properly, belongs the foundation of my career, the developments of my initial efforts, and the establishing of my work.\" Peter can be recognised in many of Louis Wain\'s early published works.

H.G.Wellssaid of him, \"He has made the cat his own. He invented a cat style, a cat society, a whole cat world. English cats that do not look and live like Louis Wain cats are ashamed of themselves.\"Louis Wain\'s original art work has now become highly prized and collected the world over.
